Grading System

AUArts uses a letter-grade system. Faculty assign letter grades according to the grading mode approved for the course ("Normal – Letter grade"). Each letter grade carries a grade point on a 0.00–4.00 scale: A+ and A both equal 4.00, A− 3.67, B+ 3.33, B 3.00, B− 2.67, C+ 2.33, C 2.00, C− 1.67, D 1.00, and F 0.00. The Normal Letter Grade Legend also prints a reference percentage band alongside each letter (A+ 95–100%, A 90–94%, A− 85–89%, B+ 80–84%, B 75–79%, B− 70–74%, C+ 65–69%, C 60–64%, C− 55–59%, D 50–54%, F below 50%).

Pass/No Pass and Pass/Fail Grading Modes

Some approved courses use a Pass (P)/No Pass (NP) or Pass (P)/Fail (F) grading mode instead of letter grades. A P grade earns credit but is not included in GPA calculation. An NP grade earns no credit and is not included in GPA calculation. In the Pass/Fail mode, an F grade earns no credit and is included in GPA calculation.

GPA Calculation

Semester GPA is calculated as Semester Grade Points (QPts) divided by Semester Credits (GPA-Hrs). Cumulative GPA is calculated as Cumulative Grade Points divided by Cumulative Credits. GPA is displayed out of 4.00 to the second decimal place, and is truncated (not rounded up or down) at two decimal places.

Repeated Courses

When a student repeats a course, only the attempt with the highest grade is used in the student's cumulative GPA calculation.

Good Academic Standing, Probation, and Academic Withdrawal

A student must obtain a minimum term GPA of 2.00 to remain in good academic standing. A student who obtains a term GPA under 2.00 is placed on Academic Probation for the next term, and may be capped in the number of credits they can register for. To return to good standing, a probationary student must obtain a term GPA of at least 2.00 in the probationary term. A probationary student who fails to reach a term GPA of at least 2.00 is assigned Academic Withdrawal (noted on the academic transcript), must withdraw from the University, and is ineligible for readmission for a minimum of 12 months.

Advanced Placement (AP) coursework transfers with grades of "4" or higher; International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework transfers with grades of "5" or higher.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at AUArts?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at AUArts?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
