Pass/No Pass Grading Option

Some credit courses may be offered with a Pass/No Pass option instead of a traditional letter grade. A grade of "Pass" is given if the student's work is judged equivalent to a grade of A, B, or C; "No Pass" if it is judged equivalent to a failing grade. Neither Pass nor No Pass counts toward the GPA.

  • No more than 15 units of Pass/No Pass coursework may apply toward the total units required for a degree, and a Pass/No Pass course may not be used to satisfy an academic major requirement.
  • Students must declare the Pass/No Pass option to the instructor before 30% of the term's scheduled class meetings have elapsed, and cannot switch back to a letter grade once elected.

GPA Computation Rules

Non-degree-applicable courses are not included in the GPA. When the same course is repeated to alleviate a substandard grade ("D," "F," "FW," "NP," or "NC"), the previous grade and credit are disregarded in computing the GPA rather than averaged in — no more than two substandard grades may be alleviated this way. Academic renewal works similarly at a larger scale: up to 40 units of previous substandard coursework ("D," "F," "FW," "NC," or "NP") can be petitioned for renewal after completing at least 6 further units with a 2.0 GPA, and renewed coursework is excluded from the cumulative GPA on the permanent record.

Academic and Progress Probation

A student is placed on Academic Probation after attempting at least 12 semester units with a cumulative GPA below 2.0, and is removed once the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher. A student is placed on Progress Probation once at least 12 semester units have been attempted and "W," "I," "NC," and "NP" entries reach 50% or more of units enrolled.

A student who remains on Academic or Progress Probation for three consecutive semesters (excluding summer intersession) is dismissed for one semester. Reinstatement after academic dismissal requires completing the reinstated semester with a term GPA of at least 2.0, with enrollment capped at 12 units that semester; failing to do so results in dismissal again.

Scholastic Honors

Students completing 12 or more graded units in a semester with a GPA of 3.0 or above earn scholastic distinction for that term — a GPA of 3.7 or above earns President's Honor List, and 3.0 to 3.69 earns Dean's Honor List.

Associate degree honors are based on cumulative GPA at graduation, including grade points from transferable courses taken at other colleges:

  • 4.00 — Highest Honors
  • 3.70 – 3.99 — High Honors
  • 3.30 – 3.69 — Honors
  • 3.00 – 3.29 — Honorable Mention

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at SJDC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at SJDC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
